Metal Magic with Metallic Card

Working with metallic card is great for adding a bit of Bling to your creations. It is very difficult to see how effective it is in the example below, but just with a small metallic addition your projects will have more stunning, decadent, and professional finish.

Metallic cardstock is ideal for Wedding Invitations, Anniversary, Christmas and Baby cards. Not to mention that it is great as an accent on scrapbook pages, making your pictures pop by framing them. But why stop there? Perfect for matting and layering on any card or any scrapping project, use this, now inexpensive, cardstock to make all of your crafting that bit more impressive.

Embossed metallic card

For making cards on a budget use this excellent idea by recycling last years Christmas cards. Cut out the front and mat and layer onto a piece of metallic card/paper. Use as the topper for your new card.

Make use of the other tools you have in your craft box, like stencils, ribblers and embossing plates. By embossing metallic card for making toppers and tags you will achieve a great 3-D effect that is both tactile and looks fabulous. To add extra dimension, experiment with gel pens or glitters on the metallic surface.

Some thoughts on metallic card and paper

Metallic paper and card is now available in a rainbow of colours and it is a particular favourite of ours. Here are a few things to consider and some simple tips when dealing with metallic card and paper:

  •   Metallic cardstock comes in various weights and thicknesses, always check that the card stock you are buying is suitable for what you want to use
  •   Some metallic card and paper is white on the reverse and others are coloured, normally with a similar tone. These can give some quite exciting effects when crafting contrasting two different colours from the same sheet of paper.
  •   As there is a sheen on metallic card and paper, printing on them can result in unexpected results (some of which can be surprisingly good). To make sure you get the effect you want, it might be worth doing a test run. Use a printer that will print photos when using metallic cardstock and also try different setting on your printer, e.g. glossy paper settings.
  •   Used sparingly on edges and borders, a metallic finish can add a wonderful finishing touch to your finished card.
  •   Try printing text on a different coloured metallic paper, vellum or linen paper and layer it over some metallic card stock for a great effect. Great for place names at dinner parties or weddings, as well as giving Christmas cards that extra special touch of class.
