Delectable Decoupage

Delectable Decoupage

Have you tried decoupage yet?? Well, if you are looking for dimension in your card making then why not give it a go.
If you are into scrapbooking, then the decoupage can be put onto a page as an embellishment, so instead of a flat page, you can have one that is dimensional and even tactile.
Go on, try your hand at a bit of decoupage and here are a few pointers to start you off.

To Glue or not to Glue …
When I get asked about decoupage, one of the first questions is nearly always:
What’s better, silicon glue or foam pads?
Well, I have to say that there is definitely a place for both.
For an even lift, I use foam pads with things that don’t have any curves. Useful with shapes, houses, etc.
But for other images silicon is better. Bending the image is a useful technique, this gives the decoupage a natural flow.
Silicon also allows you time to set the image in place, whereas once stuck foam pads are hard to reposition.
A note on Silicon glues – My personal preference of glues is the Pinflair Glue Gel, it is silicon free but still give great dimension, but the best bit is that it is totally odourless. It has a really long shelve life and even after you have opened it won’t dry out, its fantastic, can you tell that I love love love it !!

Make it stand out
With sheets of the same decoupage it is sometimes difficult make your cards look individual. There are ways and a lot of things that you can do to make your project look unique.
Picking out a few elements on the image and using a glaze will make the image pop out of the page and will emphasis the parts you want to give attention to.
However, if you want your image to look like a glass embellishment, using a few coats of glaze all over will do just that.
And, to make it stand out even more, how about sprinkling a like glitter over the glaze before it dries? We all love a bit of blink!!

Die Cut Convenience
Having die-cut decoupage is definitely a bonus for me, although, I have found that when I have had to do the cutting it has been very relaxing.
Having the knowledge that not all decoupage is die-cut, I have invested in a few pairs of small scissors. The tweezer scissors are a must in every crafters’ tool set as they are fab for cutting tiny bits and bobs and little embroidery scissors are also small enough around small pieces. A craft knife is also ideal, if you prefer, especially if cutting small holes in the middle of an image. Using a glass cutting mat with a knife will make your cuts a lot more accurate.

I hope you give decoupage a go if you haven’t already and you find my hints and tips useful. If you have any crafting queries, I will be happy to answer them so please send them to questions@cherrypickingcrafts.co.uk

Til next time, Happy Crafting
