An Introduction to Iris Folding

An Introduction to Iris Folding

Iris Folding is incredibly simple and easy yet very effective.

What an Iris Folding Kit usually includes:
  • Iris Folding Instruction Sheet
  • Iris Folding Template with matching aperture card
  • Envelopes to fit your finished Card
  • A Bundle of Iris Folding Strips

Equipment not included in the kit you may find helpful:
  • A Cutting Mat
  • Scissors
  • Craft Knife
  • Adhesive Tape
  • Tweezers
  • Glue or Tape Pens (optional)
Preparation:
Stick a length of tape onto your cutting mat adhesive side down, using you craft knife slice through the
tape to make pieces 2mm wide (helpful tip these can be picked up easily by tweezers)
Prepare your Iris Folding Strips by folding them lengthways so that the white side of the paper is on the
inside of the fold

Step by Step:
1.) Take out your template with matching aperture place the template on your work surface and
place the aperture card over it (working on the reverse of your card so that the template
matches the holes/ pattern of your card.
2.) Starting at # 1. Place a piece of folded paper into the design, make sure that the fold of the
paper is flush against the line of the template.
3.) Secure each piece at each end using a small piece of tape making sure you don’t accidently
stick your card to the template below.
4.) Continue to stick the folded strips of paper in sequences, ensuring that the paper completely
overlaps the previous piece and the edges f the template otherwise you will have gaps in your
work.
5.) When you have stuck on the last piece of paper in place, using adhesive of your choice e.g
tape pens, double sided tape or even glue secure your flap (the left hand side flap of the
aperture card this is the one to your left of your design securely in place
6.) Optional – embellish the finished design using peel offs or any other adornments you choose

This very simple process can have you producing very effective cards like these in no time at all!
